LAHORE REGION OF STAFF WELFARE ORGANIZATION

           

Staff Welfare Organization’s Lahore Office was established in the year 1963 to provide/extend the benefits of Staff Welfare Program to Federal Government Servants and their dependents posted/residing in Punjab and was declared as REGIONAL OFFICE in the year 1982.

 

COMMUNITY CENTRE, A.G. OFFICE COMPOUND

 

             This center was established in the year 1985 to facilitate the Federal Government Employees and their dependents in the following specific fields:

a)    Indoor sports activities such as Badminton, Table Tennis, Chess and Carram.

b)    To arrange cultural/religious activities e.g. Poetic Symposiums, speech competitions and stage shows etc.

c)    Wedding Ceremonies.

d)    Sports galas.

 

MULTI PURPOSE COMMUNITY CENTRE

 

            Wafaqi Colony (Dhana Singh Wala) is the largest Federal Government Employees colony in Lahore comprising of about 1450 houses and approximately 10,000 people are living there.  To provide cultural/sports activities platform at their door step a vast need was existed to provide a multi purpose community center at Wafaqi Colony.  Multi Purpose Community Centre, Wafaqi Colony was established in the year 1992-93 to serve the said purpose and since then it is providing the following facilities/services:

  

q  Wedding Hall.

 

q  Indoor Sports such as Carrum, Table Tennis, Badminton and Gym.

 

q  Auditorium for cultural & religious programmes.

 

q  Arrangement of Children Maillas.

 

q  Sports Galas.

VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE NO.I

            Vocational Training Centre No.1 was established in the year 1976 at Central Government Employees Colony, Wahdat Road which is surrounded by Postal Employees Colony and Punjab Government Employees Colony (Wahdat Colony) and colony of Shaikh Zayed Hospital employees. To make this Centre more useful and in well approach of employees/college & university going students, timings for this Centre are being observed from 2.30 P.M. to 8.00 P.M.

VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE NO.II

Vocational Training Centre No.II was established in the year 1976. It is situated in the premises of Regional Office i.e. A.G. Office Compound.  This Centre is in a hub of Federal Government Offices such as A.G.’s Office, Income Tax Department, Custom House, Central Excise and S. Tax & Lahore High Court etc. This Centre was started with the prime objective of helping the employees to improve their working skills especially in the field of secretarial training and is imparting training facilities to employees of the surrounding offices.

 

Further to above, this Centre is also providing facilities for holding tests for the recruitment of Secretariat/Clerical staff.  A number of Ministries, attached departments & Organizations are using it for this purpose and the Instructor In-charge mostly render’s his services as technical expert for conducting tests of Type-writing, Short Hand and Computer related fields.

VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE NO.III

            Vocational Training Centre No.III was established in the year 1986 at Wafaqi Colony (Dhana Singh Wala), the largest Federal Government Employees colony in Lahore, which is surrounded by Board of Revenue employee’s colony and Jinnah Hospital employee’s colony.  To provide vocational training facilities at their door step a vast need was existed to set up this Centre. To make this Centre more useful and in well approach of employees/college & university going students, timings for this Centre are being observed from 2.30 P.M. to 8.00 P.M.

VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE NO.IV

            Vocational Training Centre No.IV was established during June, 2009 at Pakistan Mint Colony,  the one of the largest Federal Government Employees colony in Lahore, which is located near Shalimar Garden and surrounded by populated area of city i.e. Mughalpura, Baghbanpura & Salamatpura etc. A vast need was existed to set up this Centre to provide vocational training facilities at the door step of employees residing in this area. Moreover to make this Centre more useful and in well approach of employees/college & university going students, timings for this Centre are also being observed from 2.30 P.M. to 8.00 P.M. Its performance is steadily is going in up-ward direction.

 

 LADIES INDUSTRIAL HOME NO. I

 

            This Ladies Industrial Home is situated in the premises of Pakistan Mint Colony and is functional since 1972. The objective behind setting up this Centre in Pakistan Mint Colony was to provide training facilities (mentioned above) to female employees/dependents of Pakistan Mint and other employees of the area. 

  

LADIES INDUSTRIAL HOME NO. II.

 

 Ladies Industrial Home No.II was established in the year 1972, in a residential quarter of Central Government Employees Colony, Wahdat Road which is surrounded by Postal Employees Colony, Punjab Government Employees Colony (Wahdat Colony), Punjab University and Sheikh Zayed Hospital Employees Colonies. This is now working in Organization’s own building.

 

LADIES INDUSTRIAL HOME NO.III

 

Ladies Industrial Home No.III was also established in the year 1986 at Wafaqi Colony (Dhana Singh Wala) which is the largest Federal Government Employees colony in Lahore which is surrounded by the employee’s colony of Board of Revenue, Jinnah Hospital and Johar Town.

 

STAFF WELFARE LIBRARY (A.G. OFFICE COMPOUND)

 

            It was established in the year 1985. It is situated in the premises of Regional Office, which is in a hub of Federal Government Offices such as A.G.’s Office, Income Tax Department, Custom House, Central Excise & Sales Tax and Lahore High Court etc. There is a Library Committee to regulate the affairs of this Library, under the Chairmanship of the Chief Librarian, Punjab Public Library and the Chief Welfare Officer, Lahore Region acts as Secretary of the Library Committee. The Library is playing its due role for reviving the dying tradition of noble cause of reading.

 

 STAFF WELFARE LIBRARY (WAFAQI COLONY)

            This Library was established in the premises of Multipurpose Community Centre, Wafaqi Colony (Dhana Singh Wala) during the year 1992-93.  In the beginning it remained un-functional due to lack of sufficient books.  Now during the year 2008-09, 152 more books were provided to this library. Its performance/effectiveness is increasing gradually and continuously with the achievements.

 

 

 

FEDERAL STAFF RELIEF FUND

Federal Staff Relief Fund formerly known as Central Staff Relief Fund was introduced in the year 1953-54 in order to provide direct financial assistance to the low paid government servants in the cases of distress i.e. prolonged illness and death etc. The forum empowered as the sanctioning authority of relief fund cases namely FEDERAL STAFF RELIEF FUND COMMITTEE, comprise of the following:

 

 

Accountant General, Punjab               (Chairman)

 

Add. Accountant General,                    (Member)

A.G.P.R., (Sub-office), Lahore 

           

         Civil Surgeon, F.G. Dispensary             (Member)

           

         Chief Welfare Officer                            (Secretary)  

 

 

Details of financial assistance provided in the following categories to the Federal Government employees:

 

·    In the case of death of government servant an amount of Rs.5,000/- is provided to meet out the funeral expenses. This assistance is granted irrespective of basic pay scale of employee.

 

·    In case of death of dependent Rs.3,000/- is granted.

 

·    Financial assistance is provided upto Rs.3,000/- in pro-longed illness and in general upto Rs.1,500/- per case.

 

·    Rs.800/- are provided for the purchase of Optical.

 

AMBULANCE SERVICE

             Ambulance service was made available in Lahore Region in the year 1988-89 for shifting seriously ill government servants and their dependents to hospitals and to back to their residences on nominal charges. This service is provided on First-come First-serve basis.  The service is available on just a phone call round the clock basis 07 days a week.

  COASTER SERVICE

            An air-conditioned coaster was provided to Lahore Region in the year 2002-03 with the aim to facilitate especially the low paid Employees to avail a cheaper but comfortable passenger career for their social/religious ceremonies such as Wedding etc. and re-creational trips that had been incurring huge amounts for hiring the vehicles from the private sector. This service is provided on First-come First-serve Basis however priority is given to low paid Employees on 07 days a week basis.

RE-HABILITATION AID

            This   scheme   was   started   during   the   year   1987-88   with the sole   objective to   re-habilitate   the   disabled   Federal Government   Employees     and   their   dependents   and   to   make them   self-supporting.      Artificial limbs, Neck Collar, Medical Jacket,   Night Splint,    Steel  Rod/ Plates,  Hearing   Aids, Walking Aids, Crutches, and Wheel Chairs etc. are provided to disables under this Scheme.

  SPORTS AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

 

            With a view to promote the sports and cultural activities among the Federal Government employees, Staff Welfare Organization sponsors Inter-departmental tournaments in the in-door and out-door games. Apart from this DARSE QURAAN, SPEECH COMPETITIONS, MUSHAIRAS, QUAWALIES, SYMPOSIUMS, IFTAR/EID MILLAN PARTIES, CELEBRATIONS OF DAYS OF NATIONAL IMPORTANCE, VARIETY SHOWS, STAGE DRAMMAS, CHILDREN MELAS, MUSICAL CONCERTS, EXHIBITIONS, MEENA BAZARS and HEALTHY BABY SHOWS etc. are arranged for the entertainment of Employees and their family members.  Excursion trips are also arranged for the government Employees under this Scheme.

 

   Medical Board of Staff Welfare Organization comprising Accountant General, Punjab as its Chairman, Civil Surgeon as Technical Member and Chief Welfare Officer as Secretary, has been constituted at Lahore to determine and recommend the type of re-habilitation aid.  Mao Hospital, Lahore provides the aids after the receipt of a reference from Staff Welfare Organization against the advances put at its disposal.
